It occurred to me today that maybe we are making Leadership bigger than what it is. Today I ran a workshop on Transitioning into Leadership at the EA/PA Summit in Sydney with a remarkable group of women (note – would be great to see more gender diversity in this space). The greatest insight for these women was that they are LEADERS!
They just needed someone to facilitate this insight for them. Take them on a journey of discovery and empowerment. If you haven’t seen the TED Talk by Drew Dudley on Everyday Leadership – please watch it here. It’s only a 6-minute video, which may change how you see leadership.
Additionally, you will soon see what I mean by Leadership and why it is not bigger than us, as we can all be leaders. It is about those lollipop moments where we make a difference to someone’s life, their way of thinking, their confidence or how we can influence or inspire, even if it is only for 30 seconds.
In turn, I took the group today on a journey where we discussed leadership, values, beliefs, actions, styles, their why, being authentic, confidence, purpose, passions, strengths and who they are and why they are leaders. All this in 3 hours! And they saw it, they got it, there were tears but ultimately they had their own leadership insights.
They now have (I hope) the capabilities and confidence in who they are, what they want and how to put this into action. Action breeds confidence and confidence breeds courage. Their focus and attention is now on what makes them unique as a leader and owning it.
Leadership is about having the courage to be the change you want to be, inspiring others to do and be more and making a difference to the world and the people on it.
How are you demonstrating Everyday Leadership? I would love to hear from you.
